Running For City Office or Park Board 2026

 

The following positions will be on the June 9^th, 2026 City Ballot: 

 

Mayor  (Brett Lambrecht)

City Council Member Ward 1  (Chad Perdue)

City Council Member Ward 3  (Tiana Bohn)

City Council Member At-Large (Kelly McNary)

City Council Member At-Large (Cory Unruh)

 

Park Board Member At-Large (3) (Zach Hatting, Deb Tobias, Brian Watson)

                     

Each position is for a 4 year term ending June 2030.

 

Qualifications for Elected Office include being a City resident for at least 9 months preceding the election and eligibility for elective office.  Ward specific positions also require the candidates to reside within the ward they are seeking election to represent. Ward boundary maps are updated following each decennial census, please note the boundaries of all 4 wards were affected by the 2020 census.

 

Candidates for City offices or Park Board may file Petitions/Certificates of Nomination with the City Auditor containing the signatures of not less than 10% of the number of qualified voters who voted for that office in the last City election.  The 2026 Petition/Certificate of Interest signature requirements are as follows:

 

Mayor                                                       140 Signatures

City Council Member Ward 1           28 Signatures

City Council Member Ward 3           24 Signatures

City Council Member At-Large     124 Signatures

City Council Member At-Large     124 Signatures

 

Park Board Member At-Large    108 Signatures

 

Petitions may be circulated beginning January 1, 2026 and are due to the City Auditor by 4:00 p.m. April 6, 2026.  Petitions may NOT be circulated prior to January 1st.

 

Wahpeton City Ordinance 2-216 (c) allowing candidates an alternative in lieu of circulating Petitions/ Certificates of Nomination to file for elective City Offices was eliminated by the 2025 ND Legislature.  All candidates will be required to collect signatures to have their name included on the ballot.
